We hook our truck-mounted vacuum to your main duct lines, seal the registers, then use compressed air and agitation tools to loosen dust and debris so it gets pulled out to the truck — not pushed back into your home. The whole system is under negative pressure while we work, so the mess stays contained. A typical residential job takes a few hours depending on the size of the home.

It can help if the ducts are actually loaded with dust, pollen, pet dander or mold. Removing that source means less of it gets recirculated every time the system runs. It's not a cure-all — you still need good filtration and regular cleaning — but for allergy sufferers it can be a real piece of the puzzle. We'll be honest though: if the ducts are clean, duct cleaning won't do much for allergies.

Yes — construction dust is some of the worst stuff for ductwork. Drywall dust, sawdust, insulation fibers and debris get pulled into the system during construction and will keep circulating until they're removed. We clean a lot of new builds and post-remodel homes for exactly that reason.

Every fall, before the heating season really starts. A clean furnace runs safer and cheaper, and it's a lot easier to find a problem in October than during a January cold snap. AC side, spring is the time.

No, they're related but different. Furnace cleaning focuses on the furnace itself — blower, burners, heat exchanger, ignition, safety components. Duct cleaning focuses on the supply and return ductwork throughout the house. A lot of homeowners do both together because a clean furnace connected to dirty ducts doesn't make much sense, and vice versa.

A brief dusty smell the first time it runs in the fall is normal — it's just dust burning off the heat exchanger. If the smell lasts more than a day or two, or if it's a burning, electrical, or rotten-egg smell, turn it off and call a pro. Persistent smells can mean debris in the ducts, a dirty blower, or a gas issue that needs attention.

Get everyone out of the house first — don't troubleshoot it. From outside, call 911 or your gas utility. Don't run the furnace again until a licensed technician has inspected it. Same goes if you see a yellow, flickering burner flame or soot around the furnace. That's not a DIY situation, ever.

No. The lint trap is the screen inside the dryer door you clear after each load. The dryer vent is the duct carrying hot, moist air out of the house — often 10 to 30 feet with elbows. Lint gets past the screen every cycle and collects in that run, and only cleaning the run clears it.

Ask what the price includes, how many vents it covers, whether the furnace and trunk lines are part of it, what equipment they use and where the debris ends up, how long the job takes, whether the written estimate is fixed, whether they also sell HVAC repairs or systems, and whether they carry liability insurance.

A standard one-inch filter every one to three months — closer to monthly with pets or heavy use. Thicker four- or five-inch media filters usually run six to twelve months. Pull it and hold it to a light: if light doesn't come through, it's done regardless of the calendar.
